Annoucement!

Sunday April 26th TAGsf will be holding our 1st ever audition for a new piece titled MPH. Take a chance to look at the older post with MPH and get familiar. MPH is part of an Aides fundraiser event through lifeCycle and it will be held at The Urban Art Farm in San Francisco. Mateo and Company will also be performing alongside us. Mateo and Co are a new company started by Mateo Klemmayer who is currently a soloist in the San Francisco Ballet. Mateo will be bringing in some of his friends/co workers to dance in the event because its a great cause. After the performance they leave off for a european tour so be sure to peep what they are touring here first... No worries we got friends too. All and all, its going to be a dope evening of great dancing and amazing dancers.

"Hmmmm? Sounds interesting. Wonder what they are looking for?"

Good question!

We are looking for dancers with solid training in Ballet or Contemporary. Partnering skills for men and contact improv skills for all contemporary dancers might help get the foot in the door or in your case, on the floor. Individuality is a quality that we look for in dancers as well. We want to see what you would do with the movement information given to you. Honesty helps move the creative process further along.

Tomorrow we will be posting the space and time for the audition so be sure to stay locked in.

Hope to see you there.

MPH-M

-btroubles is lockin in.

alright, so yo. yesterday we got started on some movement that will correspond to the audio we put up a couple days ago of the thoughts of Michael Paul Henderson. (MPH) Also, this project is to be referred to as MPH-M (Michael Paul Henderson Movement)
I think B Nasty had an idea in his head of what MPH-M would be like, and i now think that its going differently than what he originally thought, for the better of course. all we really thought about at first was just recording someone talking...now were here developing a work to the same recording, but its all different. nothing like how it started. i feel like the movement is going the same way. its started simple yesterday, now all we can do is see how MPH-M unfolds.

Incubation: Studio G

all of you need readers i am bringing back some old material from Studio G. With these tough economic times one can not afford to be just wasting money on rentals or wasting movement information....... Oh hell no!

This clip was shot in my room about a year ago with the understanding that i will be using the information at a later point with different music and multiple dancers. Now i am currently in the studio working on new material for a May performance using multi-media and i will be bringing this little study that i did in my room back. I made it just for this case. A long time ago while studying composition in school one of my classmates and good friend Kevin Guy told me thats its ok to re use movement that you have made earlier. Not everything has to be new and its not cheating if you never used it in a show before now is it? Ive been doing it ever since and i always have a back catalog to resort back to.

LOCK IN.

Kurt Cobains 15th anniversary

Nirvana still to this day are my all time favorite band because i grew up with they're music. More importantly, i felt a connection with Kurt Cobain. Even though i was a young black kid from an upper class respective home i felt what it was like to be isolated. Hence me being a black pre-teen in the early 90's listening to rock music. Unheard of. Now its cool to do that but back then, not so much. I can remember back when i had found out that Kurt was also a visual artists i felt even more connected because i was super into art. I was at school studying visual arts my whole life at that point. It was so cool to see my then idol had wanted to become a painter which was the same goal that i had. His music and words really spoke to me like no other singer can match, not even today. For me Nirvana represents a certain period in my life that i have never fully grown out of. Having something that you believe in and can escape to when everything around you is all fucked up is what i take away from the music.

This clip that i am posting is from Nirvanas New Years Eve concert. I was watching it at home by myself on New years Eve in the upstairs rec room hopping that it would never end. For me it was the coolest shit ever. I was watching Nirvana perform live and that would be as close as i ever would be to seeing them live.

Something about the show that is stained in my mind forever is the face that Kurt made at the end of the set. The band was done with the show and as usual they were destroying all the instruments and causing anarchy onstage but having a ball while doing so. The crowd was super pumped and Kurt was inviting them onto the stage to mosh. Out of the blue he had made the most god aweful face that i have ever seen for no reason, he just seemed to be bloody miserable out of nowhere. After the show i sat in the shower and could not stop thinking about the face that he had made and why he would have done it cause everyone was having a good time. I was all of 13 thinking about that. A couple months later while watching MTV's Sports Kurt Cobains Suicide was announced. I was not surprised in the slightest.

(Jenna doing jenna things in a jenna world)

(on the way to Manhatthan from Long Island)

Getting back to the East is always a pleasure cause i get to see old friends and classmates while getting the ol nostalgia back. Grew up in the East so a lot of my heart and blood is still over there. Not too mention the majority of my family and friends. NY was a blast and i always come back to the bay more inspired to push things along because there is such electricity in the air. This time around i was lucky enough to make some great new contacts in terms of getting the TAGsf work out there on a larger scale and i even got to speak at a Dance film event that showcased a couple of our joints. Thank you marc and Jeki for inviting me in. Had a blast. My only regret is Jenna and i playing Bingo with the high hopes of coming out with our wallets fatter but that fucking N1 will get you everytime. Still had a great time non the less.Bingo has not heard the last of us!
