Girl Chocolate Trailer

Skate rats rejoice. The Girl/Chocolate boys are at it again offering us up a new teaser trailer for theyre new film to be released next year. Im super stoked on this film with Girl been my favorite skate team along with being a huge inspiration in all of my branding. The Girl boys are all about fun. With a roster of new riders like Sean Malto, Mike Mo and Cory Kennedy not mention iconic names like Eric Koston, Mike Carroll, Brian Anderson(all former Skater of the Year) and Spike Jonze whom is directing. We can expect the unexpected and we are all funna be in for a treat.

Making it happen for Byron Klassen

Very serendipitous that the last post features the dancers from Batsheva. Well get back to that in a minute........

So, in this world you have 3 types of people which i break down like this.

1. people who asked "What Happened"
2. people who saw "What Happened"
3. people who MAKE IT HAPPEN

My close friend and frequent collaborator Garen Scribner falls into the third category of making it happen and on a constant. The special thing about Garen is that he does not only just make things happen for himself which is so easy to do noways with getting caught up in your own little world and shameless self promotion to move forward in life but Garen is another breed entirely. He enjoys more making others dreams and visions come true which is rare nowadays.

I want to share with you his most recent endeavor which would allow one of his students from South Africa (more on that below) named Byron Klassen to fly to NYC from South Africa to audition for Ohad Naharian who is Artistic Director of Batsheva Dance. Batsheva is the same company that i blogged about right before this post and one of the best modern dance companies in the world. Now we are getting an impression of Bryons talent level:) This is such a special opportunity for this kid with so much promise. Ive seen video of him in class and rehearsal, Byron lights that ass up. Its easy to envision him below getting down and dirty with the dancers from Batsheva. I hope everyone helps support him by spreading the word and donating. With all of that said......Im gonna pass the mic to Garen to give more deets.

As some of you may know, I spent part of the summer in Cape town, South Africa teaching dance in the Dance for All program. Along with the rest of my LEAP South Africa team, we created a two-week intensive for almost 100 students. We had an incredible time and loved working with the children.

We saw so much talent, but recognized something very special in one student in particular named Byron Klassen. We really believe in his innate talent, and are working to bring him to New York so he can be seen by choreographers and directors. He is 19, and ready to move into the professional world. He simply needs the opportunity!

Byron is going to stay at Alejandro's apartment so our man already has a place to stay! Please help these guys out!

The Iconic Composer Sets the Score for the Star Choreographer's New Dance Film

Dancer Craig Black writhes his way through a period apartment in upstate New York’s Mount Kisco in Benjamin Millepied and violinist–turned-creative director Timothy Fain’s saturated short. Set to minimalist composer Phillip Glass’s rousing score “Partita for Solo Violin,” the film is part of Fain’s immersive multimedia film series, Portals. The experiential performance, in which Fain played live, was presented at New York’s Symphony Space at the end of September and met with rave reviews. “I’d always been fascinated by how ‘visual’ Phillip’s music was, and I knew I wanted to pair it with film in some way,” says Fain. “Not to mention it’s just some of the most passionate, dark, expressive music I know.” New York City Ballet principal Millepied, now the face of YSL’s L’Homme Libre perfume, was Fain’s first point of call for some direction and complimentary footwork after previously collaborating on the set of Black Swan. “Philip’s new solo violin works are very beautiful, haunting and heartbreaking at the same time,” says Millepied of the music inspiring his works. “Images came quickly to mind, stories and intimate moments reflecting life.”

This video is a perfect example of why I cant allow the "Weirdness" to take over and have a team of people behind me to make sure that shit don't happen. I mean........I get it. I get it BUT did this really need to happen outside of a drunken conversation (or high)?

The convo would go as follows.

"how cool would it be to make a ballet with naked chicks dancing on crutches with random dudes thrusting they're junk in the background pushing they're skateboard along?"

"oh man, that would be fucking sick!"

"yeah man. Id love to do some shit like that but I'd be whack as fuck if I really did it and people would not be feeling me"

"i think your right. That shit would be funny though"

"oooooohhhh child! We should stop smoking this shit!"

Funny none the less.
