A good example of how to do it on the ground level.

I’m posting another video of Cedar Lake (try and guess who I wanna work with) performing in an installation piece. Notice how the artists are performing on ground level challenging the viewer’s perspective of dance watching.

As a viewer we are used to been seated with the stage being elevated so that you are able to catch all of the action which makes perfect sense. However, if you are walking downtown and you see street performers doing there thing you will always have the crowd circle around them while they are break dancing or whatever magical act they are doing. Same difference in the Club applies. Here’s an example: Some fool is eye balling you from across the floor trying to see what you got, next thing you know homedog is following you into the bathroom which is creepy. After you let him know that you don’t get down like that you find out that he does not either and his weird ass was trying to battle you. Wanting nothing more then to get rid of this creepazoid because lets not forget that he did follow you into the bathroom you tell him that you are a choreographer who’s been working all day and tired. The only reason why you are even in there is because you are doing a favor for a friend. With that newfound knowledge "Dude" is asking all kinds of questions about his dancing now that he knows that you choreograph. "Wait, did you see me dancing?" "NO" "So... You like make dances and did not watch me dance?" "NO" "You choreograph and did not watch me dance? But you were looking my direction. Really, you did not watch me dance?" NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!..........And I digress.

What im getting at is having the artist perform on ground level is a very exciting thing. Maybe for some too exciting. Looking ahead too the end of the month I have a new 20 min piece titled Micro Machines and Dinosaurs that will be going up here in San Francisco. The new piece is gonna be on ground level and have 2 facings along with some multi-media and other surprises.

More on that soon to come.

Kanye West New Video Welcome to Heart Break/TAGsf new Dart

KANYE WEST "Welcome To Heartbreak" Directed by Nabil from nabil elderkin on Vimeo.

Kanye West new video Welcome to Heart break is fresh to def and on that next level. Thinking about it more its a throwback to the past. Old shit is the new shit. That quote got me thinking about a video that we have been sitting on for the past couple years.

We got flown out to DC a couple years ago to work on a lot of new experimental material. 3 of us in one small space. Garen myself and our genius Director/editor Matthew Taylor. When i say "Genius" im not exaggerating, i mean it. In 2 days time we knocked out over 30 some odd different dance films. Im not too fond of the name dance film so i have been calling them DARTs (dance art). The term Dance Video does not do our work justice. Still to this day we are able to use old material that we have been sitting on cause we dont know what do with it yet. Its funny showing it to others and seeing how well received the work is even though for the most part its old. Funnier showing it to perspective clients who think the works great but dont know how to match it up with they're current client list. Thank the lord for Kanye "Martin Louie the King Jr" and his new video. Welcome to Heartbreak. Kanyes new video is a great example of the type of work that we do even though we have nothing to do with it. Im glad to see "Pop" culture is starting to catch up with thinking outside the box and stop doing the same old run of the mill stuff. Looking at it, i think it will open doors for some of the more experimental work that we do. With the current economy being the way it is WE WANT MORE WORK plus we dont seem so crazy anymore.

Thinking Cap

Come to find out that my idea for a new collabo is a good one but i need to have a unifying concept. Something that has yet to be thought of as of the moment. We are going for syntax and cohesiveness. Looks like someone will be going on long walks and taking abnormally long showers.

Happy new years everyone. The air in 09 smells much more crisp and clear. Seems like its going to be a great year. My "Culinary Consultant" Rogers has come up with a little slogan that he has already used up, but its still kinda cool. Time to shin in 09.

There are so many new things to talk about since i have been away on vacation. Not even wanting to be hustling on my Xmas vacation i ended having certain things kinda fall into place. My priorities as of the moment are on re-setting Paper Magic for an up coming show the 17th of the month and another dance video screening. So happens that the timing for me has been good and certain dream projects are shaping themselves out to be real. It the Secret y'all(just got back from NC)

Being the suave intelligent, baller that i am it would be unwise to give away some of the new collaborations involving musical artists that i have set up. What can be said is that this will be the biggest project that we have taken on yet with a soon to be house hold name musical artists. This project will take us coast to coast using various dancers and bring back our long time collaborator Dr. Bacon back on board for filming and editing. Thinking that i want to so the same difference as Cymbal Rush with this next project. Translation...........It will be performed live, at some point:)
