To Do Lists

I leave back to the "real world" tomorrow and i have a lot of pressing matters to attend to. So, yet again here is my "To Do list"

1.Get dance video branded and sent out to Ben by the 1st so that our game will be tight for the Jan 14th video showing that TAGsf will be part of.

2. Coordinate with my assistant about rehearsal schedules with my dancers for the Jan 17th showing.

3. Get back in contact with Dom and start plotting for a new shoot later on in the month and start to secure other dancers as well.(stoked on this one. It will rock your socks)

I think thats it?

If you have been following my blog you would know that i love skateboarding. Been doing it for over 13 years. Some people take a walk down the beach or read a book to relax, i hit the streets if i want to loose myself. TheBerrics is an amazing skate site because it works like a blog with new updates on a daily basis. The site is based out of a skatepark owned by Eric Koston, one of the all time best skaters in the world and Steve Berra who can hold his own. Berra is into the Holly Wood scence cause he is an actor, matter of fact he was married to Juliette Lewis. Anywho.....the site is amazing and mos def worth the time to go and check out. I would recommend that you start with Buttery Ass Mondays because that shit is funny.

Holiday gift ideas

The economy is down. No need to go out there and spend a whole bunch of money that you dont have. Be smart about the purchases. Here is a great one. The Dark Knight, cant go wrong with this gift.

For serious though, Ledgers performance as the Joker really is that good. If he does not win the Oscar this year i would like to see the asshole that did.

While on the Subject

I just finished watching the "Film" version of Cymbal Rush on the post below. I spoke in short about how we did a live version of the piece at NCSA. Today what i decided to do is elaborate on how i developed it for stage.

Once we (garen and I) decided that we were going to do Cymbal Rush for stage i had to start thinking about how to translate the movement on a much larger scale. Dancing for film is a lot different than stage because you are more or less confined to a certain frame that you need to be in at all times. Thus making it more intimate. Stage is different story. Stage you have so much more space to fill so that the movement does not seem flat. Garen made it a point to tell me that we have to go much bigger than before. The only thing that i really had to wrap my brain around for "stage" was the lighting which is KEY. The choreography remained the same with the exception of some transitions and new phrasing for Ben Wardell(Hubbard St)who filled in for an injured Quinn Wharton(SFB).

Lighting was so important for me that i flew my ass out to North Carolina so that i can be there to tech the lights. I had been in contact with the Lighting Director of the program who was still a student. Once i came in for the 1st tech i was so pleased about how well the LD was able to produce my lighting specifications. The lights were done so well that i had time to work on other ideas that i had. I wanted to make it more atmospheric. The reason why i am, and was so hell bent on the lighting is because good lighting sets the tone and atmosphere. The music for Cymbal Rush is so driving, pulse heavy with these rich classical piano undertones, lyrical phrasing that is talking against the music and then lifts you up into the clouds. It would be easy for the music to overpower the dance because its so heavy and full. My job was to translate the movement to the music but also have to be able to set the tone with the lights. I wanted to have the audience be transported into another place the entire 6min while my dance was being performed. Judging by the viewers reactions and my former teachers i can say "Mission accomplished".

here it is..

Inspirations/Listening to.....

Thome Yorke came out with a solo album last year titled The Eraser. Loved it so much that i choreographed to the last track Cymbal Rush. Something that is really special for me is that this piece marks our first collabo with film editor Dr.Bacon. Also the first time that we ever did dance for camera. A year later we got to do the piece live for the North Carolina School of The Arts Gala performance featuring artists from ABT, NYCB, Boston and a lot of others. Matter of fact this is my favorite joint to date.

If you want to amuse yourself read the comments that people had posted about the work. It used to piss me off cause it was for a choreographic competition wanting to find new contemporary choreographers. Clearly the use of the word "Contemporary" was exasperated because all i saw was the same ol shit, hence why i will never do a competition ever in my life again. The judging sucks. But i no longer care. Sometimes in life you will get hit with the Hater Spray

Go Green

as a child growing up in North Carolina i always wanted to be a Herptologist. Some one who goes out into the fields and studies reptiles and amphibians. This new discovery of 1000 new species makes me wish i was there but you can read about it here.

Yeah, im into science man.

(CNN) -- A rat believed to be extinct for 11 million years, a spider with a foot-long legspan, and a hot pink cyanide-producing "dragon millipede" are among the thousand newly discovered species in the largely unexplored Mekong Delta region.
The "dragon millipede" is among the 1,068 new species discovered in the Mekong Delta region.

more photos »

The region, including parts of Vietnam and five other countries, is home to 1,068 species found between 1997 and 2007, according to a World Wildlife Fund report released this week.

Some of the creatures were not lurking in fertile floodplains or tropical foliage.

A scientist visiting an outdoor restaurant was startled to see a Laotian rock rat among the nearby wildlife. The hairy, nocturnal, thick-tailed rat, which resembles a squirrel, had been thought for centuries to be extinct.

"There is a certain amount of shock because our scientists will sometimes see something that doesn't fit anything they know," said Dekila Chungyalpa, Director of the Fund's Mekong Program. "They run through a catalogue of wildlife in their brain, asking themselves, 'Have I seen this?'"

Perhaps a more startling discovery than the rat was a bright green pit viper scientists spotted slithering through the rafters of a restaurant in Khao Yai National Park in Thailand.

The Fund dubbed the Mekong a "biological treasure trove." The organization's report "First Contact in the Greater Mekong" says 519 plants, 279 fish, 88 frogs, 88 spiders, 46 lizards, 22 snakes, 15 mammals, four birds, four turtles, two salamanders and a toad were found.

Scientists are still trying to determine if they have uncovered thousands of new invertebrate species.

Scientists are discovering new species at a rate of two per week, said Chungyalpa, who said the reason for publishing the report now was twofold.
Don't Miss

* Read the WWF's report

"We realized that we should highlight these discoveries in part because of the legacy of war and conflict in the region," she said. "There's an urgency with the threat of development in the Mekong countries."

A horned bovine found in 1991 living in the evergreen forests of the Annamite Mountains of Laos and Vietnam has not been found in recent years, she said.

Timber development and mining industries are encroaching. There are 150 large hydropower dams that have been constructed along the Mekong river, and another 150 are slated to be built, according to the Fund. Dams that can trap and kill fish are at different stages of planning in the Greater Mekong.

High variation in geography and climate zones that enabled species to flourish are now jeopardized by climate change, said Chungyalpa.

War is always a threat in countries touched by the Mekong River, particularly Burma. Also known as Myanmar, the largest country by geographical area in mainland Southeast Asia has been ravaged over the years by conflict, political instability and natural disaster.

This summer, for example, the United Nations reported that as many as 100,000 people were killed by a cyclone that hit Myanmar. The country's ruling military junta blocked the outside world for weeks before allowing aid to flow into the region.

There are cultural obstacles to protecting rare species, too. Many restaurants serve them as food. Restaurants often have rickety bamboo floors that one can look through to see cages filled with exotic animals, Chungyalpa says. The more exotic the animal, the more status it often bestows on the person who consumes it.

"Reports [like the WWF's] are important because these regions can be educated," said Maureen Aung-Thwin, the director of The Burma Project, which is funded by the George Soros Foundation and supports local Indonesian organizations working toward an open society.
advertisement

"People are taking climate change more seriously and even the ruling junta have a forestry NGO. There are glimpses of hope," said Aung-Thwin. "But it's also a situation where someone could step forward and say 'We don't need this' and cut it all down."

WWF said it is working with governments and industry to plan the conservation of more than 231,000 square miles of forest and freshwater habitats that cross borders with all countries in the Greater Mekong.

Inspirations

Think that its a cool idea to talk about other artitsts that inspire me.

Starting with Marc Jacobs

Venture

Tuesday i started working on some new joints by bringing in dancers individually. I like working like this as of the moment so that i can really get into the meat of the bone(movement). Working with the dancers one at a time i can really get to see how they work and how i should best use them instead of them both trying to please me by doing the same exact thing. That will happen later once i get everyone in the studio together.

here are a couple pics of day 2 with girl 2....Alex

David Bowies Station to Station.

old school like an old fool. Whoop there it is.

B

hey, hello, hi.

today i start working on some new material for an upcoming performance this Jan. This new project is going to be a challenge for me because i will be working with an all female cast with the exception of Jeezy. Hence why i posted a pic of Natalie Portman. Hey man, she inspires me so get off my back:)

The music that i have selected is free form jazz so that is a challenge within itself. Most of the instrumentation sounds like improv or dissonant chords. Theres really not any melody. The only problem that i find with the music is that it might be too much. I wonder if i were watching a show with the same music would it be too distracting? As long as the movement is able to aide the music intelligently, i dont think that i would mind.

Tonight i work with a dancer in Studio G so that i have a body to work on. You know, workshop.

If i figure out that the music does not work than on to something else. Musical Director Jeezy has all kinds of good stuff.

hola!

I would like to say "Thank You" to Mr. Levi for inviting me to be part of such an amazing event last night.

Misnomer Dance Theatre did an incredible job with launching a live webcast. An online event that viewers at home could watch in real time. It was trippy to see some of my work go up during the intermission. Right before the show started i was on the phone with my friend Jason who is in the NY based dance company Cedar Lake. We stayed on the phone together for most of the 1st half. I was laughing about how im in San Francisco while watching a dance performance in NY.

I did not want to watch my own work during the intermission so he was reading to me the comments that the viewers were leaving for my joint "Triam". To my surprise they were all good!

Thanks again for a spectacular evening and i look forward to seeing what you guys will do next.

Finally

Last night i could not believe my eyes. My friend finally took the time to sit down and start blogging. How long has it been now? The whole set up for this is blog is to have real time up to date info on what the T.A.G collaboraters are up to. You know....what makes them "tick". I've noticed the more i write the more i piss people off. Never do i intend to do it, just always works out that way for me. All this blogging stuff is new terrain. I learn as i go. I will say that its not cool getting people mad over posts.`We had a laugh last night dubbing me the "Great Ruinner of all things", or something to that affect. I mean my birthday does fall at the end of the Myan calender, supposedly the end of civilization. It makes perfect sense that my nickname in school was Btroubles.

And i digress.

here are some pics of Jeezy doing his 1st blog in my home studio.

The site gave me butterflys:P

DIY in No Man's Land

This week has been a good one for me. My focus/clarity is better then it has ever been and im taking everything one step at a time.

Right now im working on a new edit of Balloons. Im really stoked on it because i have never taken on anything like it before and the editing process is is taking me into un familiar territories. Insomnia helps me out a lot too. Working late into the night with lucid thoughts is very interesting if i would say so myself.

The material that i am working with is shot from a live show that i choreographed last year. The show was inspired by the dance video edit with the sam title. Dr.Bacon shot and edited it a couple years back with my art direction/choreography. Sitting at my desk splicing making "in's and out's" and chopping the material i have to remind myself that its not going to be anything like the live joint. The fun comes in playing around, trying new things out and re- arranging the material.

Thinking about other things that inspires me i can see that this will evolve itself into something that i have yet to make out in my head. The only thing that is bothering me is that i have no reference points of other films to watch. Im literally going into "no mans land". Is that a weird thing, or have i always been there?

Only time will tell.

Studio G_Incubation

Im back from my vacation.

Batteries charged back up.

I want to thank everyone for they're overwhelming support for the work that i do. I have received a lot of emails from folks expressing to me the satisfaction and inspiration that they get from my work. I still find it weird, but cool too.

Also would like to clear one thing up. When i talk about shooting myself i dont mean it. I have a interesting sense of humor and its all in the name of "shits and giggles".

"This town deserves a better class of artists and im going to give it to them!"

Here is the clip from last week that i promised pre-mental breakdown. Its a work in progress.

Oh, i know that i posted on another site that i will not be using Radiohead anymore but this is an old joint so go chew on a stick:P

Until i get some motivation to produce more new joints im temporaly putting TAGsf on hold. My focus for the time being will be on trying to figure if really want to do this? Not today

Sorry no new joints today. All my motivation is gone. As of now i dont
see the point in producing work anymore. The only reason why i have
been doing it is so that i can get my ideas out. I have been working just
to work. Right now i feel like i have been spinning my wheels.
I lied when i said that i am better cause i am not.
Considering taking a long break from all of this and focus my energies
on something else.

B

Hmmm.........

Yesterday after being on the verge of shooting myself i was able to get my bearings back. My friends pointed out to me that i am on the right track with what i am doing and producing good work. To take my mind off the "Blue Pill" i went skateboarding to blow off some steam which helped center me again. Its weird cause i am a very confident person who knows my strengths/faults so me feeling discouraged happens very rarely, but when it does the shit hits the fan for me.

Today i am back to normal and know what i need to do to push things further along. I have never been one to care about what other people are doing cause i am so caught up in my own little world. What that means is that i never compare myself or work to anyone elses. I cant. Never have i wanted to be anyone else or change lives but yesterday FUCKED me up and i did not know how to deal with it.

A little while ago i was on Gawker.com and read a very inspiring article.

Subject: All New: call for ideas

Hello everyone,

We're planning an issue for January called the All New issue. It will be pegged to the Obama inauguration, and the idea is that we're heading into a new era with an opportunity for new thinking and new ways of doing things.
We're looking for suggestions in all categories: the most interesting new people and ideas in science, medicine, economics, education, business, film, television, art, books, music, architecture, fashion, sports, food. The
actor or author making a phenomenal debut; the gadget that will change the way we do things; the policy wonk with a new plan for tackling homelessness; the new ingredient that's showing up on restaurant menus; pharmaceutical breakthroughs; new trends in fashion... The only requirement is that it has to be—new.

The issue is coming up quickly, so please send your ideas by November 26.

TAGsf is all over that ass. Trust me on that!

To Do lists

Today is the day that i was supposed to put up my weekly "To Do List". Well, after i got done speaking with Casey(interactive guy) about how i need to get either an LLC or fiscal sponsorship so that we have somewhere to put money from producers or whatever. Casey told me "dude you dont need that just yet. Your shit is an underground organization." True. Very True. He then showed me some other websites of kids doing the same thing as us. Something that i noticed on the other sites were how well they used branding. Every video section opened up with a graphic of the logo. SHIT!! Now i have to go back and incorperate the TAGsf logos in all of the videos that we have produced. I will not be doing that with any of the old joints that we already have out there. Instead, from this time forward i will be adding the branding to all new works that we are doing. Problem solved!

To Do list:

1. Branding

2. Merchandising

3. DVD

more of that to come about the DVD.

B

Tomorrow we dance/Studio G_(clip)

Here is clip from some phrasing that i worked on 5 months ago. Sooo
many blurbs of movement that have gone untouched. Now im starting to
revisit them and develop the phrases into full movements.

Tomorrow you get the real deal buddies:)

oh, i will suggests that you play your own music with the clip. You will be surprised. Might be cool!

Sunday I did exactly what i set out to do. Chill!

My room mate the "Crazy Bastard" himself and i went to the beach and decided to rent Lord of The Rings. After the Fellow Ship of the Rings Rogers decided to cook us a "Mans Dinner!"

Something that needs to be said about "Rogers" is that he is a Crazy Bastard but in the Kitchen he is a prodigy child. He is lead chef at a 4 star resteraunt in Marin called Picos.

He made me a pork sandwhich and for himself, check out the pics

you can too have a "Mans Dinner" here is the recipe:

1 big ass steak pork

2.One "big ass" Potatoe

3. One "big ass" loaf of bread

4. One "big ass" cup of water

Dont worry ladies. The "Womens Dinner" is up next

Sexy aint Easy

There is nothing i enjoy more in the world then calling my friends who i know are sleeping early in the morning. The reason why its so funny to me is because im not a morning person but i have to get up early for work. By the time I'm awake all my friends are sleeping so its ripe picking. Everyone of them have a differnt response to my phone calls. The smart ones learned to turn the phone off, while the others well......

Here is my latest victim. Dorito. Her response to my calls had me laughing this morning. Now i might be eating my words cause i might be up for revue to get kicked out of the "Sexy Kids/Team Sexy". Her argument is that its not sexy to call someone early in the morning. My argument is that it is Sexy.

Peep our FaceBook conversation below

Dores:War is on Bitch, swear I'm calling you at 5am on Sunday........first fucking day I slept in,YOU woke me up.....get ready for war

Me:ha ha ha ha.

in spanish

ja ja ja ja ja!

Dores:Next Friday at the Independent,El Guincho,Team Sexy is going and although morning calls ain't sexy,we haven't exclude you, yet.

Me:Why are you always trying to kick me out of the Sexy Kids? Getting up early in the morning is one of the sexiest things a person can do. It tests the Sexy. Do you think that momma Trya Banks gets up late? Hell naw. That bitch us up at 6:00am putting in her weave(and LIZ). Not just anyone can do it. Its a dog eat dog word out there and only the Sexy will survive.

Dores:Me and David(Bowie) still think you'r sexy,don't you worry.

Alright. Sounds like my future is secure(for now) with Team Sexy.

Bowie Said so mothafuckas!

Soon we rock

Yawwwwwnnn.........:P

Of course im tired.

This entire year for me has been about working from the back end of TAGsf. My priorities have not been performances which sucks. My priority has been in developing the brand idenity, developing an online pressence, new joints(material) making new contacts, learning how to edit, staying innovative without being cheesey. Above all getting ready for battle!

Next year is "Go Time." I am activley looking for venues/collaborators learning about new technologies so that we can bring this thing to you. Thats what i am most excited about. The way that i see it is that we operate like a band.

1st- we put the music(dance) out there. Hopefully you like it and want to do some investigating to see more of what we have to offer.

2nd- You buy the album and tell your friends how hot it is. Word of mouth kicks in and the "hype machine" starts.

3rd- The band goes on tour and you buy tickets/merchandsing to the show. Hopefully the show does not suck and you walk away from an amazing time eager to go back for more.

This is the model that i will be basing TAGsf after. The main thing are the shows which are fun with amazing dancers. "No Expectations" is a model that i set up for TAGsf so that we can keep coming up with fun new ways to get people to check out our work and come to the shows. You can come to expect that we will be doing something differnt but fun. At the end of the day its all about the dancers and collaboraters who i am so lucky to have. Yet again i dont know how in the fuck i,ve done it?

Man, this is a lot of work for a non-existant company with no money huh?

thats on my list too.

one more thing

I have to re-visit my comment about the homeless "cock block" because i think that we are onto something. Plus its funny shit.

Last night while we were out at a bar in the mission i had met 2 grape ice creams from Atlanta. They were nurses intown for work. Matter of fact, lets rewind a little further.

Leaving the concert that started the night off for us, Ben and i took the BART to the mission. We got off at our stop and there was this cardboard murial of Barack Obama. The cool thing about that was you were supposed to sign it. We did our thing, i snapped a pic or two and we roll bounced to the bar so that we can find some action.

For some odd reason no one was at the places that we frequent for some reason or another. We decided to kick a free stlye at Dellerium and even managed to get caught in a dance off. It was cool, it was dope but... we needed some grapes. An hour or so passes and 2 grapes walk into the spot. I start to chat them up thinking that its about to go down. Little did we know that my man with the Obama sign was with them. Straight up homesless. let it be clear Im all about the "starving artists from the streets trying to get him some of his, regardless" but, c'mon man. I got a motha fucking job and Im a small time pimp. Anywho, the girls wanted to go somewhere else and dance so we roll bounced to the Elbow Room. As we were leaving my man had the girl i was talking to hold his cardboard art. WHAATTTTTTT?

We get to the spot, danced, do our thing. Im happy cause im chiiling with the grape and at the same time Ben is trying to fight with the homeless dude over the other girl. 2:00am hits so we had to peace out. Ben said that we should go back to his and chill with the grapes. We got cab. Dont tell me that the homeless dude pops his ass in the cab with no loot, making one the girls hold his shit and sit up front with my girl. By this time Ben and are laughing cause we were being out played by a homeless man. Dude comes back with us to the house and chills up on it. We even got a taxi back together!

If you need any more proof that the economy is down look no further. I guess its all about that homeless swagger.

you aint got nothing, you wont loose nothing.

Game well played:)

Night Owls

Last night i found myself caught in the heat of battle. My knees were all scrpaed up but still i fought on.

Last night i found myself along with my boy Ben being cockblocked by a homeless man.

Last night i found myself taking pics of Pat sleeping with some weird "New Balanced" ergonomical pillows. We were all very impressed. I think that he got them in Japan

Last night i found myself at "Bimbos". A concert hall for the SF band the "Do Dos" performed.

This morning i find myself tired.

Yes We Did!

Last night america spoke to the rest of the world. We said that we want change.

Our newly elected president is the face and voice of that change.

Barack Obama!

We heard the news after me being mad at one of my friends for voting for McCain. My friend is a well known male ballet dancer and it makes no sense to even think about supporting the red ticket if you are in the arts you know? After calming down i went to Jeezys place and we talked a little followed by skating so that i could relax and get away from all of the poll coverage. About an hour later we went to a friends place right up the street. The moment that we walked in she had told us that Obama had been elected president of the USA. All of us cheered and made phone calls to family and friends. Jeezy looks at me, "Streets" he says. I nod my head in accordance. We roll bounced through out the entire city. Everyone was pouring into the streets in celebration of this mile stone. We both knew that then and there everything has changed, forever. We were part of history that night. So much elecetricty in the air.

here are some shit photos that i took with a camera i bought off of on the streets for 8 bucks. I will try and convince Jeezy to add his to the blog. Yes We Can!

Jock the vote

A couple weeks ago i was approached by the artists Czelena to help edit a video. The video so happened to be in support for Barack Obama. Anything that i can do in support of helping getting him elected i will do. Today we are fighting to make that happen.

If you have not gone out to "Jock" the vote make sure to hit up the streets and make your voice heard. Unless you are a undecided voter. If that is the you, Please stay home!

(jeezy rehearsing in Studio G)

Look below at the pic of the last post and wonder "what the hell is that?" I know the answer and still feel the same way.

The graphic is from a show that we were part of last Halloween hosted by Urban Art Farm. I was approached the Saturday before to be part of the program. What sucked was that i already had plans for rehearsal on Monday with 2 other dancers so i could not get cracking on new joints til Tuesday.

Long time collaborater/musical directer kendall Teague "jeezy" was my dancer for the piece d'occasion. I knew that i wanted to do something different/buck nasty because:

A. Its Halloween

B. Performance followed by party.

C. We can get away with it:)

What i had in mind for the new joint was having Jeezy be a detainee. I have been doing a lot of reading and research over the past few months on the current administrations interrogation policies and wanted to express some of my angst. The dance was in 3 sections.

1st section-Introduce jeezy and the chair with loud annoying music blasting

2nd section- Jeezy being forced to look at fucked up images that i ripped off youtube with a track that was kind a beachy.

3rd section- Jeezy dancing in chair and finally standing up breaking free from his constraints.

After it was all said and done, we were happy with the product. Everyone involved with the program had kind words to say about the "not so kind piece". A principal artist that we respect had some super nice things to say about Jeezys dancing and i got hit with a healty dose of "Hater Spray" later on that evening by a stranger who did not even go to the performance. Haters are a good measure of if you are doing anything well. Its there job to hate. I need to take that one hater and double the hateraide.

What matters most to me about this venture is that i have learned to very important things. One of them being this marks the 1st time that i have ever used projection to accompany dance. I was very pleased with the results and look forward to doing bigger better things with it. The 2ns thing that i learned is that i am the "1 minute man". Every day that we worked for an hour or less i consistantly produced a min or more worth of material.

Later on this week i will be posting the video of the new joint.

Getting Jacked Fridays.

Over the past week i have not been able to focus on mutch else aside from thinking about getting my house broken into.

It happened last Friday after i was out skating with Jeezy after work. I went back to his, chilled and then went home. Upon entering i noticed that the back door was wide open. I went to go see who was out back smoking. To my surprise no one was there. I looked around and everything was accounted for. I take a nap around 9:15 and my room mate Rogers comes in at 10:30 asking me if Jeezy took his TV? I said "no" and that i was with him the whole time. Not too mention that is a retarded claim cause he lives down the street and just moved out and a close friend of mine. We then discovered that we had been robbed. I look off of my "Fortress of Solitude" and noticed that my camera bag was gone. Jumped off my bed, look at my desk and the camera is gone! The camera is a Cannon XL 1 which was on loan to me from work. Nothing else in my room was gone. My G5, McBook, 2 TVs and a bunch of other shit was all still in my room. Did we get hit by a polite Robber? No. It was an inside job cause there was no forced entry. If someone did rob us off the streets then all of that shit would be gone. Another funny thing is that the other room mate had nothing stolen of his. Just Rogers and myself were robbed which i find very curious. Plus who else knew what i had? Another fun fact is that they stole all the chords including USB firewire that goes to the camera. There is a rat amongst us and im gonna smoke you out motherfucker!

You want proof the economy is down? 2 other people have been robbed. The one thing that all of us have in common is that we were all robbed on Friday.
