San Francisco Dance Center Celebrates 20 years

All dancers/ people who love dance in the Bay Area have at least once taken class at Alonzo Kings San Francisco Dance Center. Within the SF dance community everyone and their momma goes there. The dance center is a great resource for dancers of all levels to come take class in ballet, modern, hip-hop, jazz and numerous others. You can come take class early in the morning and stand next to dancers from the Lines Contemporary Ballet Company, which is pretty cool not too mention inspiring. Local and national Choreographers can rent out the studios at an affordable rate. I use the space a lot. Matter of fact I need to book space for this Sunday! Looking back on it, I found one of my new favorite dancers whom I plucked out of the Lines Training program. If you have not been to the Dance Center PLEASE check it out…. Such a great space!

Exposition of the Heart

SF based dancer/choreographer Folawole. Im very impressed with this man and all of his hardwork. Look forward to checking out his show and eating some cheap good food. Yeah i said it, dont lie you will be too!

Exposition of the Heart, directed and choreographed by Folawole, is an innovative combination of dance performance, live music and visual art that seeks to raise awareness about abused and battered women by exploring themes of consciousness and rebirth. This work, which is being developed in collaboration with the Women’s Building in the Mission District of San Francisco, brings together the stories of female and male characters whose experiences are personally individual and commonly resonant. Breaking the cycle of violence will be explored through a mixture of solos, duets and unexpected group dances. The performance includes six different acts created to highlight the strengths and skills of each artist and expose the power and inner strength of all women. This performance will bridge new choreography and improvisation with masterful artists, using a warm yet innovative approach to deepening audience engagement. Exposition of the Heart is dedicated to the passing of an artist and friend, Ashley Taylor.

Outside Lands Photo essay

We rolled through to the Outside Lands last Sunday to check out Jack Whites new band Dead Weather fronted by the chick from the Kills. I got lucky and ended up in the VIPS VIP to watch M.I.A. whom had the best set of twin dancers ive ever seen.
All in all, the show was not as good as last year because how in the hell are you gonna top Radiohead? Still we had a good time so whatever. Ill be back next year.

Dancers Group 2nd Sundays now accepting applications

Blame it on the Boogie

Ryan Strawn!!!!!!! This is for you buddy. Way back in the day when we were in dance class(your tripple tours) you taught me about soul. When we would car pool together you always blasted NSYNC even though i hated them. I learned from you to just chill and appreciate the music for what it is. Your singing and dancing was pre- Timberlake and i think that he must have come to some of the NWSA's shows because he bit your style real hard. All the way down to the curly Ques!

I dont know why this video reminds me so much of you. must be the energy and MJ being a tripple threat in the same way that you were. Kinda reminds me of the time that you Hice and i went to the Charlotte City Ballet Costume Ball dressed as pimps. Something about the fun youthful timeless energy that's bound in this song and you. Who knows?..... Well just blame it on the boogie:)

I will miss you Buddy.

These Are My Twisted Words

Radiohead, my favorite band is back on the scene with new music/touring and so are we. As you can tell I am into many of things all being art related because I like to consider myself a renaissance man. Also I have been in Art School my whole life and know nothing else really.

As of today this blog will be featuring inside info on what is going down in the SF Bay Area Arts Community. Im always looking for sites that have relevant and up to date info on performance, audition info, exhibits, tours, openings with no luck. I’m talking about all of the arts ranging from dance to music to visual and music. I am fortunate enough to have a lot of resources at my disposal and I will be sharing that info with all of the Bay Area Artists. Of course you will be seeing my own shit as well (ha ha).
