White Noise

Over the past couple days i have been listening to The soundtrack for the flim There Will Be Blood composed by Jonny Greenwood. Something about the structuring of the music is so captivating to me. A couple tracks from the score are also included in his commision as the resident composer for the BBC orchestra. I have spoken about it here.(link below)

Today i found the link to the full concert on NPR.

Inspirations/Happy Birthday

No way in hell can anyone be involved in dance and not know who Mikhail Baryshnikov is. Mischa pushed dance into new terrains with his dynamic dancing and animal presence. Flawless technique and a pure joy to watch. This man has done it all. Classical, modern, film, television, director, and now has his own studio in NYC.

Happy Bday.

gala

Last night i went to the SFB gala for the upcoming spring season. While trying to get changed i had to look on YouTube for how to correctly tie a bow tie. Glad that i did cause the night was amazing. All of the dancers were in top form and finally the ballet had a Gala that was not a snoozer. The best part of the evening aside from all of the dancing grapes was the candy line. A huge assortment of berry delicious candies.

here is the video that i watched so that i could come correct.

Secretary of The Arts?

I have been getting a lot of emails lately from different arts organizations/ artist's about an online petition for The Secretary of the Arts. Watching all of the inauguration coverage on CNN today i heard Quincy Jones make a statement about how important of a role the Arts play in the development of kids and how a lot of them dont know who Louie Armstrong is. When asked about who would be a good candidate for the job i was disappointed that he had no answer which made me start to think.

Who would be a good candidate for The Secretary for the Arts?

its ok to leave a comment. I dont have a site meter or anything so its a rhetorical question in my mind.

Last night was the 1st night that i have had off all week. Tried cleaning but was not in the mood. Tried going to a bar but not in the mood. Thought about watching some YouTube for concert lighting research but not in the mood. Decided to go out and skate. That was fun but the new tricks i have been working on are more or less down so had to stop that. While i was out i decided to go to the local bar Place Piagle and yet again not in the mood. I ended up watching the American Pie straight to DVD Beta House and of course fell asleep.

Today i am well rested and ready for this week end. I have 2 shows on Saturday. 1st is a dance performance that i have the final tech for tonight. Kinda excited/ worried about it cause i will be doing more multi-media and i am worried that the specs might not work out. What i do have is my interactive guy coming into document the whole thing so if anything goes down that cant be trouble shot then he is my ace in the hole.

The dance film is a done deal. Been done with that. All i have to do is show up and maybe talk during the Q&A. Basically i will be running around all Sat like a mad man.

Listening too......

You know when you are having a shitty day or days? That one person who is always there to say that "things happen for a reason?" As much as i hate to admit it...... the saying is true. I will explain about that in more detail at a later time. We will journey together down memory lane though.

Story:

Driving back home on New Years day i was listening to NPR who at that moment in time were doing a best of 08. The musical act who got best Independent Artists is this guy based out of NY named Son Lux. He composes for dance companies in NY and also came out with a album last year. The station played some short excerpts from his CD and i fell in love. His music is hip-hop influenced with rich undertones. Melodic. Listening to the tracks you can tell that his arrangements are well composed and super tight cause he has a classical background. The music is not so far out there that someone who is not in to that kinda stuff would not be able to appreciate it, yet its still on that next level shit. Once i got home i went online to listen to more of his music and he had remixes of Beirut and Radiohead. Thats when it was true love for me.

Anywhos, give it a listen. Its good shit.

True Story

anyone who knows me knows that i have a ton of funny stories involving the most random people and situations. For humors sake im going to tell some of them on the blog starting off with choreographer extrodinare Mark Morris.

3 years ago i was at the SFB end of season party chilling on the smoking balcony with some of my friends, slapping high 5's and having a good time. Mark Morris was outside with us as well being his marry self. Thought that it would be a good idea for me to asks him where does he get his ideas for his amazing spacial patterns. At that moment in my life i really started to pursue choreography after graduating from school so i was "deadly serious". Mark hears me out and then looks over at me and said " You know what Brian? Im an artists!" Shut me the fuck up. There was nothing i could say. It made perfect sense to me.

The main thing i took away is to "do you". Looking back i asks myself "What the fuck am i wearing and whats wrong with my hair"? Looks like i sprayed Jerry Juice or something on my head.

A Little Bit O Fun

My bad about the lack of posts as of late. Been trying to get myself back in the swing of things and have a lot on my mind.

I mentioned earlier about doing some collabos with some new music artists, one of them being a old classmate of mine from North Carolina School of the Arts. His name is Alex Adams and he was at school for music. Now he is based out of Atlanta. He works with the Ny based choreographer also from NCSA Emery Lecrone on music so he must be good cause she is always in the NY Times. Alex has been texting me a lot over the new years along with emails of his music. Here is where the fun comes in.

Granted, when i say "fun" its more than likely something a little fucked up. I went out yesterday after work to have some fun and busted the back of my head against the wall trying to nail a skateboard trick. Now thats fun:( Anywho......I decided to give Alex a little challenge just so that i can see what he can do. The other night i went out onto my balcony set up a Lamp light and a camera that i had postioned on the ground looking up at me. Pressed play on my Ipod, started to Jam. Clearly i know what song i was listening to that would make me to move the way that i did. The trick is taking my movement and setting new music to it. That is going to be Alex's job and im very curious about what he will come up with.

See having a little bit o fun:P

Happy new years everyone. The air in 09 smells much more crisp and clear. Seems like its going to be a great year. My "Culinary Consultant" Rogers has come up with a little slogan that he has already used up, but its still kinda cool. Time to shin in 09.

There are so many new things to talk about since i have been away on vacation. Not even wanting to be hustling on my Xmas vacation i ended having certain things kinda fall into place. My priorities as of the moment are on re-setting Paper Magic for an up coming show the 17th of the month and another dance video screening. So happens that the timing for me has been good and certain dream projects are shaping themselves out to be real. It the Secret y'all(just got back from NC)

Being the suave intelligent, baller that i am it would be unwise to give away some of the new collaborations involving musical artists that i have set up. What can be said is that this will be the biggest project that we have taken on yet with a soon to be house hold name musical artists. This project will take us coast to coast using various dancers and bring back our long time collaborator Dr. Bacon back on board for filming and editing. Thinking that i want to so the same difference as Cymbal Rush with this next project. Translation...........It will be performed live, at some point:)
